Texas
Holdem is one of the popular forms of Poker played in Texas.
Players get two down cards or hole cards. After this, betting
begins. There are three board cards, which are turned concurrently.
This is called the “flop”. Thereafter, another round
of betting begins. The next two board cards are turned one at
a time, followed with a round of betting after each card.
LIMIT
HOLDEM:
LONGHAND
LIMIT STRATEGY
Longhand
limit Holdem is generally played between 8 or more players.
The strategy mentioned below mainly applies to the beginners
who have just passed their preliminary stage of playing Poker
and have attained an idea on how to play it with intellect.
Pre-flop
Starting Hands:
In
pre-flop starting hands, beginners often commit errors when
they tend to play too many hands at the same time. They should
realize that the game needs patience and you need to be patient
to deal with quality hands and win the game.
David
Sklansky, a poker expert, has grouped hands into 5 categories.
These are as follows:
Category
I – It includes suits like AA, KK, QQ, JJ, AK. These hands
are considered the best hands, which you can raise or re-raise
pre-flop.
Category
II – This includes suits like AA, 77, AQ, KQ. These are
good hands but not as much as those in Category I. In this case,
you may have to take the help of board cards.
Category
III – It includes suits like 55, AJ, AT, KJ, QJ, JT, and
QT. These hands are also good hands, but one needs to be careful
while playing AJ, AT, KJ as these hands are exposed to losing
to a high kicker.
Category
IV – This includes Ax suited (x means an idler or any
small card), Kx suited (x should be 7 or higher) 77, 66, T9,
98, 87, 76. These hands are not as good as those from Category
I to III, as even they need a lot of help from the board.
Category
V – It includes small pocket pairs such as 55, 44, 33,
and 22.
Flop
Play:
After
hitting the flop, you will arrive in any one of the following
four situations:
You are winning but have a beatable hand.
You have three-of-a-kind or maybe even a full house on the flop.
You have the second-best hand.
You have a drawing hand.
You have nothing as you are completely beaten by your opponents.
Low-limit
games do not carry much tricky situations. Therefore, beginners
would find it a straight winning game. If there are more than
six players, you are likely to be beaten by your opponents.
However, if you are playing against only 2 or more opponents,
you are likely to win the game.
SHORTHAND
LIMIT
In
order to become a master poker player, you should be aware of
all sorts of shorthand games. All the shorthand games include
6 or less than six players. Even in online games shorthand games
are quite popular. Therefore, one should be able to pay shorthand
games well. Many a times higher-limit, games are played shorthand.
NO-LIMIT TEXAS HOLDEM:
No-limit
game is a very simple game. Only basic tactical skills and a
component of psychology are required to play a no-limit game.
When you enter into a no-limit game, you should know the types
of opponents you have, and the number of hands that go to a
showdown. There are five types of opponents:
·Tight Passives
·Loose Passives
·Maniac-loose Aggressive
·Strong-loose Aggressive
·Tight Aggressive
Tight
Passives
Such players play well in a fixed limit game, but do not perform
well in a no-limit game. This is because they do not get full
value out of their winning hands. You need not worry, as you
can easily beat these players either through calling or folding.
Loose
Passives
These players are frequent losers. They always look for people
bluffing them about their cards as they call frequently with
the second best hand. You can easily win against such players
as your opponents.
Maniac
Loose Passives
These players have a tendency to buy a fair amount of pots.
However, at the end, they often lose money in one or two hands,
as they lack discipline and get trapped easily. These are also
rarely seen on the table.
Strong
Loose Passives
These players are most dangerous to deal with. They may lose
money in the game but also make a lot of money, as they bet
on time and know how to make correct moves. The only catch here
is that they do well when there are players with large stacks.
Tight
Aggressive
Such players are easily bluffed out and read by the opponents.
SHOWDOWN
PERCENTAGE
Showdown
Percentage is a critical area in no-limit game. In a no-limit
game, players bluff, make huge money, and win the pot. Nevertheless,
if everybody knows you at the river, there are sleek chances
for you to win the pot if people call you with weak holdings.
The more showdowns will take place, the more it would be better.
